As the NASCAR season kicks into high gear. I hear alot of comments from people who are just in shock over this development. Well I’m going to give my 2 cents here. This was a very good move on XM’s part to let NASCAR leave for several reasons.

1 - In Car audio - The quality of this is just plain awful and just about inaudible. I hear nothing but complaints about this. Dont peg this on XM. They just grab the Fanscan Feed. It is what it is folks.

2- XM just never really built up a good following. From what my sources tell me the listenership just isnt there. These races are available on terrestrial all over the AM dial.

3- XM still owns the rights to the name NASCAR Radio, which might mean that the non-live race channel will stay. Recent signings with Jimmie Johnson & Dale Jr. might indicate that.

4- NASCAR asked for a ridiculous amount of money and XM knows their limits and took a pass on it.

Yes Sirius did pick up NASCAR for 5 years @ $107.5 million, which in my opinion is just insane. Those dollars can definitely be better spent elsewhere. Again, bravo to XM for making a wise business decision here and taking pass on NASCAR.
