I’ve been doing a little research and I believe XM is adding new channels. Direct TV had a page up here that had new channel info on that page but the info has been removed. Here’s what I saw in there:
Big Tracks
Big Tracks picks up where Top Tracks leaves off … these are the biggest classic rock hits from the mid 70s, through the 80s and into the early 90s.
Fuego (Alegria re-named)
Fuego plays the hottest sounds in Latin music today — a hot mix of reggaeton, Latin hip hop and rap. Artists like Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Tego Calderon, Ivy Queen, Luny Tunes, Zion & Lennox and many more.
XM Chill
XM Chill takes you on a voyage into the Chill zone … a place that pulses with exotic and cerebral music known as smooth electronica. A European phenomenon that is finally emerging in North America, XM Chill is beyond a channel … it’s an experience in sound.
The Message (The Fish re-named?)
A bright mix of Christian pop hits from yesterday and today.
Artists — Mercy Me, Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Natalie Grant, Jeremy Camp
XM: The Heat
The Heat is XM’s home for hip-hop, R&B and today’s hottest music. This is the music that’s selling all over America and burning up the charts.
Artists — Kanye West, Chris Brown, Ciara, Nelly, 50 Cent
XM: Viva
This is the channel where Latin pop lives. Viva explores the rhythmic, contemporary side of Latin pop with the biggest superstars of the format. Enjoy the sounds of Shakira, Juanes, Ricky Martin, Thalia, Paulina Rubio and more.
The info is still in Google’s cache though. The DirectTV stuff is there if you go to http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=xm+big+tracks&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
You can see the Big Tracks info I saw and if you do searches on the other channels you can see them as well.
Very cool stuff though. I’ll elaborate on this some more when they are official
Well as more rumors still circulate about some big announcement on Monday. I keep hearing the same thing I had heard about E-lo mentioning something about this on O & A . There was no pointer as to when this would occur, but I can’t imagine anything else that it could be. Ok so let’s say that is the case. That we are getting 8 new channels on Monday. What would you like those channels to be ?
I would love to see the following:
- Smoke Stack spin off into its own channel
- A real Chill channel opposed to what we get on Sunday afternoon
- Another classic rock station that would be a cross between Deep tracks & Top Tracks
- Bring back On The Rocks
Those top my list, what’s yours?
The Sam and Dave Anthology special was XM 6 this morning and this was an awesome show. I learned alot about Sam and Dave as well as what a powerhouse Stax records really was and what a big part Isaac Hayes and Dave Porter played in their career. This was very well done and if you didn’t catch it this morning there is only one replay of this special and that’s tonight @ 9 PM ET.
Definitely catch this one….its worth missing an hour of Smoke Stack this evening ![]()
I’ve gotten several communiques from various sources about XM having a big announcement on Monday. What the news is I’m certain of. I have a hunch, but I’m not sure. Could we be possibly seeing some new stations ? Its long overdue in my opinion, but this is merely rumor and I cant verify anything at the moment.
The only thing I do know is that there are alot of rumors flying around about a big announcement on Monday beyond that I know nothing, but it sure is fun to speculate ![]()
Everytime I listen to the Sweet 16 Music Machine with Terry “Motormouth” Young I just like it more and more. What is The Sweet 16 Music Machine ? Picture This…one week one year back in the 60’s. Monday- Friday 5 AM ET, 12:00 PM ET, and 8:00 PM ET the Motormouth takes us through the Top 16 songs of this day sometime between 60-69. He also throws in alot of interesting tidbits, like birthdays, artist facts, and news.
One of my favorite shows in the XM Nation by far…If you like a well done countdown show check it out.
Just another programming reminder. Tommorrow evening Deep Tracks XM 40 will be airing another concert in the BBC Archive series. U2 recorded live in 1983. It’s interesting listening to them then and now. They had alot more intensity back then and this very raw sound. I tend to like listening them better in their early days, but definitely worth a listen if you haven’t heard this concert before.
